Rod Preuss, B Troop, 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment (Memorial), rides Sabre through the pistol course while firing at a balloon during the National Cavalry Competition at Fort Riley, Kan. Sept. 19 -- 22. About 70 people, including five military cavalry units and re-enactors, participated in what has become a major military cavalry competition which focuses on horsemanship and weapons skills attracting serious competitors whose main focus is on winning, according to Christopher Zimmerman, B Troop coordinator.
