FORT STEWART, Ga. - A small team of Soldiers assigned to the 90th Human Resources Company, Special Troops Battalion, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, Third Infantry Division, deployed to Kuwait, Oct. 29, to act as a Casualty Liaison Team.

"They are going to have to be self sustaining, self sufficient and highly proficient. They've trained really hard and are disciplined and ready to undertake this mission," said 1st Lt. Matthew J. Riggs, the plans and operations officer in charge for the 90th HRC, STB, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, 3rd Inf. Div.

Friends and Family gathered at the company in the early morning hours to wish the team luck and bid them farewell as they loaded equipment and prepared to deploy.

"My wife is here with me this morning," said Sgt. Robert B. Bradley III, an administration sergeant for the 90th HRC, STB, 3rd Sustainment Brigade, and the deploying team's platoon sergeant. "It's hard leaving her, but she is in the Army as well and understands that we have a mission to do."

The team deploying consisted of an equal mix of veterans who had deployed before and Soldiers who will count this as their first deployment. All said they were more than ready for the task at hand.

"This is my first deployment, so it will be a new experience for me," Sgt. Bradley said. "I just have to get a feel for things when we get there and make sure my Soldiers are okay and taken care of."

With President Barack Obama's recent statement that all Soldiers in Iraq will be home before the upcoming holidays, the duration and focus of the team's mission is subject to change. However, the team is undeterred in their confidence that they can handle any mission they may face.

"We've been training for the mission of being a Casualty Liaison Team since August," Sgt. Bradley said. "We're ready to go and complete that mission while there, but we are also ready to react and adapt to any change in mission that comes our way. We're going to stay as long as the mission dictates and they need us over there."
