FORT STEWART, Georgia- The 3rd Infantry Division welcomed Brig. Gen. James Blackburn and Brig. Gen. Christopher Bentley to the Marne Team during a ceremony held Aug. 7 at Marne Garden.
Blackburn, a native of Pennsylvania, assumes the duties as the deputy commanding general for maneuver. He is charged with oversight of unit training and operations in garrison and combat environments.
Blackburn and his family have been with the Marne Division since May, but this is not his first time being a Dog-Faced Soldier.
"It is great to come home," said Blackburn. "This truly is a great place because of the community and people that support us here."
This is Benley's first time with the division, but he already feels like he is home.
"Although this is our first tour at Fort Stewart, it is not our first tour with America's finest, the Soldiers that stand on this field today," said Bentley, who most recently served as the commandant for the US Army Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
Bentley assumed the duties as the deputy commanding general for support with oversight of the administrative and logistics functions of the 3rd ID, including combat support operations.
"I have had the opportunity to work with both of them for at least a month," said Maj. Gen. John M. Murray, 3rd Infantry Division Commanding General. "They have great reputations, they both bring great amounts of wisdom, passion, and energy, and I could not have picked a better team for the Marne Division."
