BAMBERG, Germany (May 15, 2014) -- The traditional Bamberg Spring Fest has received an extensive face-lift and is scheduled to take place at Warner Barracks, starting May 16 and running through June 1.

A search for a new location became necessary after the park-and-ride facility and the adjacent fest grounds, called the Bamberg Plaerrer, were torn down to make space for a different venture.

U.S. Army Garrison Bamberg stepped up to make way for a new fest location on post. The Bamberg-stationed 54th Engineer Battalion helped make this possible by removing all equipment and clearing their motor pool to create the necessary space for the addition of carnival rides.

This year's Bamberg Spring Fest, called "Bamberg's Fruehling", is one of the biggest fairs in the Upper Franconia area. The annual event will once again offer visitors plenty of attractions, novelties, rides, food and refreshments.

"We have almost 600 meters to walk through the fest, featuring almost 40 attractions and rides," said Georg Fischer, chairperson of the Bavarian association of carnival ride owners.

Aside from pretzels, hot dogs, grilled fish and many other food items, the new "Beer Village" will feature a stage for live entertainment. Brass bands, choirs and rock bands have announced their appearance, and a fireworks display is scheduled for May 24 in honor of the American Soldiers and Families who were stationed in Bamberg for nearly 70 years.

The traditional Ferris wheel and carousels are classics at the Bamberg Spring Fest, but with new rides like the "Black Out," the" XFlight," or Bavaria's biggest haunted house "Ride to Hell," the fest organizers hope to draw new people to the event. May 23 has also been announced as "American Day."

The fest area can be entered from Zollnerstrasse only, and ID cards are not needed. The area has been fenced in and cannot be entered from the garrison area directly. Since parking is very limited, visitors are encouraged to use public transportation, provided for free from the new park-and-ride at Kronacher Strasse every 30 minutes (weekdays from 1:30 to 10:30 p.m., Saturdays from 1:30 to 11:30 p.m. and Sundays from 12:30 to 11:30 p.m. Parking fees at Kronacher Strasse apply). The remaining American Families on Warner Barracks are looking forward to their last fest. For for them the new fest site is now in walking distance.

The fest is open daily from 2 to 9:30 p.m., and from 1 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Check the links on top for more details and a fest site map.
