3-8th Cavalry Regiment rotates into the Republic of Korea
YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea-The Department of Army has approved the rotational deployment of the 3RD Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment from Fort Hood, Texas, to Camps Hovey and Stanley, South Korea within the month.
The 3-8th Cavalry Regiment is the fourth U.S. Army rotational unit to deploy to South Korea for a nine-month tour.
The regiment brings approximately 800 Soldiers to replace its sister unit, the 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment who have been deployed to Korea since February of 2013.
The 1-12th Cavalry Regiment is scheduled to return to Fort Hood after it transfers its responsibilities to the incoming unit.
A trained and combat ready force, the 3-8th Cavalry Regiment will deploy with mechanized Infantry and armor assets. The regiment will utilize vehicles and equipment already in place from the previous rotational unit. Upon completion of its nine-month rotation, the squadron will return back to its homestation,
U.S. Army Pacific routinely schedules and deploys forces on a rotational basis to South Korea. These routine deployments support the U.S. security commitment to South Korea as specified by our mutual defense treaty and presidential agreements. They are also designed to meet the U.S. National Security Strategy in support of a strong and capable partnership in the Asia-Pacific region.
The ROK-U.S. Alliance remains committed to peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. The U.S. will maintain the same level of commitment now and in the future on the Korean Peninsula, in order to deter aggression and defend against external threats.
