Transportation specialists assigned to the 842nd Transportation Battalion loaded 2,700 pieces of cargo onto three vessels in support of the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division's deployment from Fort Riley, Kansas, to Europe at the Port of Beaumont, Texas, May 10 to June 19.
"The deployment of 1/1 ID was a collaborative effort between multiple agencies and organizations which included the 842nd Transportation Battalion working together with contracted labor and the Port of Beaumont to ensure mission success," said Lt. Col. Tyler Olsen, Commander, 842nd Transportation Battalion.
"We received over 2,700 pieces of cargo on two different conveyances that spanned over three weeks, which loaded onto three vessels. In addition, we also conducted premobilization training for the 502nd Transportation Management Team. With the success of the mission, we were able to provide 1/1 ID ABCT with the required equipment in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve," Olsen added.
The 842d Transportation Battalion conducts surface deployment and redeployment, distribution and water terminal operations to support and sustain the Warfighter. Battalion operations are conducted through the Ports of Port Arthur, Beaumont, Corpus Christi in Texas and Gulfport, Mississippi.
Since 2014, the U.S. Army has routinely deployed Brigade Combat Teams (Armored, Aviation and Sustainment) from the U.S. to the European theater in support of Atlantic Resolve.
