FORT BLISS, Texas -- Soldiers with 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment "Regulars," 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team "Bulldog" conducted machine gunnery to improve readiness and lethality, Sept. 12, 2018.

The M240B Machine Gun and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon are the two most important weapon systems for dismount troops.

"It's very important, particularly for us, because we're transitioning to a more dismount focus to be able to qualify on your weapon system," said 1st Lt. Robert Wedebrook, platoon leader for Company B, 4th Bn., 6th Inf. Regt., 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division. "The 240 is one of the most important assets to a platoon leader and to a company. The 249 is the same thing for a squad or a team."

Machine gunnery ranges occur every six months to ensure Soldiers are mastering the fundamentals and are qualified on their weapon systems.
