30th Medical Command changes command, cases colors for Afghanistan deployment

HEIDELBERG, Germany -- Col. Dennis D. Doyle assumed command of the 30th Medical Command during change of command and colors casing ceremonies at Nachrichten Kaserne here, April 22.

Doyle, who served as deputy commander for administration at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. prior to arriving here, assumed command from Col. Bernard L. DeKoning.

Following the change of command ceremony, the 30th MEDCOM colors were cased for its upcoming deployment to Afghanistan. Headquarters 30th MEDCOM will deploy later this spring to provide command and control of regional health service support and force health protection units for U.S. Forces - Afghanistan.

Headquarters 30th MEDCOM will also oversee medical policy throughout the USFOR-A area of operations, and work with the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan to enhance its medical infrastructure and capabilities.

The 30th MEDCOM includes a headquarters company; the 212th Combat Support Hospital in Miesau, Germany; the 421st Multi-Functional Medical Battalion at Wiesbaden, Germany; and the 67th Forward Surgical Team in Miesau, Germany. The 67th FST will also deploy to Afghanistan.

DeKoning is slated to become the command surgeon for Multi-National Security Transition Command - Iraq.
