FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Fire Stations One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six were certified as Green Boot organizations.

"Fort Bragg's Fire and Emergency Services stepped up to the challenge to enterprise sustainability and integrate conservation into daily operations," said Melinda Harrington, Green Boot program coordinator. "Their leadership sets an example for others to follow."

The fire stations implemented a variety of sustainable practices to achieve Green Boot certification.

Environmentally-preferred and cost-effective cleansing products were installed at all of the installation's fire stations. Additionally, the fire fighters implemented a robust recycling program throughout the department.

"Efforts to go green in the fire stations have been met with strong support," said James Johnson, logistics officer for the Fort Bragg Fire Department. "In our effort to preserve Fort Bragg resources, small changes have added up to create a strong program."

The Green Boot program is an opportunity for units and organizations on Fort Bragg to conserve resources and support the mission through simple, sustainable practices such as energy and water conservation, recycling, waste reduction, green procurement, air quality improvements, awareness and training.

The goal of the program is to reduce environmental impacts at a unit or directorate level, thus securing Fort Bragg as a functional military installation for future generations of Soldiers, civilian and their Families.
