FORT GORDON, Ga. -- Logistics Readiness Center-Fort Gordon answered a call for help during a water scare, here, Feb. 9-11.

The installation's Emergency Operation Center requested LRC-Gordon's assistance after the Richmond County Environmental Protection Division issued a Boil Water Advisory to the public. Dirty water had been discovered in water treatment plants servicing Fort Gordon.

Drivers and forklift operators from LRC-Gordon's Transportation Division supplied bottled water to more than 15,000 government-quarters occupants, Soldiers and civilians. The LRC also coordinated for the purchase of bottled water and organized an additional 72 pallets of water from LRC-Jackson at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

The LRC used 13 water trailers to distribute about 115,000 bottles of water for the duration of the advisory to ensure enough water was available until normal drinking conditions returned.

The following restrictions applied:

--Do not drink the water

--Do not allow untreated water into eyes or mouth

--Do not wash food items/consumables with tap water

--Do not use ice from ice machines connected to the affected water source

--Do not use tap water to brush your teeth

As of Feb. 11, the water treatment facility has been cleared and tap water was deemed safe to drink and other normal uses.
