ROCK ISLAND, Ill.--More than halfway through the 2014 Illowa Bi-State Combined Federal Campaign, federal government employees continue to generously donate to CFC charities to make a lasting difference in people's lives in the Quad City Area and beyond. In addition, volunteers at various agencies hold fundraisers to generate additional donations to CFC.
"A big positive this year is the fact that 40 percent of donations so far are from people who have not donated before," said Mary McDonough, loaned executive from Joint Munitions Command. "I think the campaign has really raised awareness this year of those in need."
Loaned executives for the CFC are volunteers on loan from agencies at Rock Island Arsenal. Their agencies continue to pay their salaries thereby allowing CFC to lower its administrative costs. LEs serve as liaisons to federal agencies and employees and keep everything on track during the campaign.
In addition to McDonough, the other LEs this year are Mia Eddy from Army Sustainment Command, and Ryan Hackbarth from Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center.
"I am enjoying serving as an LE this year," said Eddy. "It's quite a change from what I do on a regular basis at my usual job. It's worthwhile and fun reaching out to federal workers in the bi-state area to talk about the benefits of CFC donations to non-profit charities."
The LEs work closely with key people in individual agency offices who work to promote the CFC. The key people personally contact 100 percent of coworkers to give them the opportunity to "Give for good."
"If every federal worker in the bi-state region could donate just one dollar a pay period, it would make a huge difference to so many," said McDonough.
Federal employees in the bi-state area can choose from 2,500 local, national and international charities to make donations. Last year, area federal employees pledged more than $400,000 to CFC charities.
The Illowa Bi-State Combined Federal Campaign will wrap up at the end of December.
