TARIN KOT, Afghanistan - During February, Afghan Department of Natural Disaster and Relief Staff have been distributing food and winterization items to those less fortunate within Uruzgan province.
This distribution began at Safar Karez , where the Provincial Governor, Amir Mohammad Akhundzada, and the Director of Natural Disaster and Relief ( NDR), Ismatullah Faiz, personally handed out blankets, carpets, tea, sugar, cooking oil, rice and wheat to those in need. At the gifting ceremony, Mohammad Ullah, an Afghan Provincial Council Member, spoke on behalf of the local tribal leaders.
"We are happy with the government providing help like this. But we do not want this to be a one-time event," said Mohammad Ullah.
He believes the government should provide more assistance until the people are no longer facing economic problems.
"The government should build roads, schools, hospitals, and wells for clean drinking water in Uruzgan province," Mohammad Ullah said.
The Department of Disaster Relief Coordinator is currently in the process of working with different organizations on projects to help the people.
"My cabinet is working diligently with the central government, global aid organizations and national government organizations requesting additional assistance in the future for the people of Uruzgan," said Amir Mohammad Akhundzada.
Ismatullah Faiz expressed his appreciation to coalition forces that assisted with coordinating this event.
"I am thankful for the support I received from coalition forces that helped coordinate the logistics. Once the NDR had a plan set, the Afghan government and tribal leaders worked together to ensure that those in need received the winterization items. I will do my best to continue to support the governor and the people Uruzgan," said Ismatullah Faiz.
The Provincial Governor and Director of Natural Disaster plan to visit every district within Uruzgan to distribute winterization items and talk to the people within the area.
