Staff Sgt. LaNiece E. Bowman, a contracting non-commissioned officer with the 412th Contracting Support Brigade, Fort Sam Houston, Texas, joined the 51C military occupational specialty after spending her first nine years of service as a logistics specialist.

Always reaching for new heights and new challenges, Bowman quickly embraced the opportunity to expand her knowledge to become one of the Army\'s newest contracting NCOs.

Bowman graduated from the Army Acquisition Basic Course, U.S. Army Logistics Management College in May and was immediately re-assigned to the 412th in June. The unit was in need of a personnel NCO as they prepared for their activation so Bowman was tasked to temporarily fill the void and served as a driving force behind the ceremony.

Diligently researching personnel regulations while laying the foundation for standing operating procedures within the S1 shop, Bowman coordinated, tracked and established new methods required to prepare for the receipt of the brigade's contingency contracting battalions.

From PERSTATs to PACIDNs and leave logs to personnel records, Bowman never let her lack of knowledge in the personnel arena stand in the way of the successful, unhesitating assistance to the brigade's newest Soldiers.

Currently, Bowman is preparing for her transition to the brigade's operations cell where she will begin her career in contracting as a part of a brigade staff charged with planning and executing contingency contracting support for U.S. Army North and joint operations throughout the NORTHCOM are of responsibility. Bowman continues to pursue her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science while working towards her Level 1 contracting certification.
