2nd Lt. Elena Chavez, an infantry officer from Kansas City, Missouri, assigned to Charlie Company, 1-17 Infantry Battalion, 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, high crawls to cover during the Expert Infantry Badge move under direct fire lane at Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington, Oct. 28, 2019. "Usually we were the first squad out here and the last to leave," Chavez said, crediting her squad leader's dedication to training on the lanes as a critical component to their success so far. "When it rained for a week straight - the Soldiers see that you're out there. It helps a lot with mutual trust."
