The 828th FMSD will be deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

"For nearly a year, we've been training for this mission," said Capt. Michael Murphy, commander of the 828th FMSD.

Soldiers from the 28th FMSU have deployed 11 times since Sept. 11 to support operations, including Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation New Dawn.

Of the 25 Soldiers deploying, it will be the first for 18 of them.

"This will be my first time deploying," said Staff Sgt. Susan Dombrowski, a disbursing agent.

Dombrowski added that her confidence in her Soldiers is very high, "The training we conducted gave us the chance to work together, and I saw first-hand how well they know their job."

The Soldiers will be handling military pay and providing banking support to forces.

Col. Mark McCormack, commander of the 213th Regional Support Group, was the keynote speaker during the deployment ceremony. "Where there is at least one Soldier on the ground, the 28th FMSU is there to support them."

The Soldiers were joined at the send-off by elected officials, friends, family and other members of the community. West York VFW provided a lunch which allowed the Soldiers and family members to enjoy the afternoon together.

"As commander of the 28th FMSU, it's been a great privilege to see this unit come together as a team in preparation for this deployment, and it's another example of the outstanding capabilities of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard members," said Maj. Eric Turner.
