5-1 Cavalry Squadron Welcome Letter

By U.S. ArmyApril 26, 2016

Welcome to the U.S. Army's oldest Cavalry Regiment still actively serving on America's Last Frontier! Allow me to personally welcome you and your Family to the Blackhawks. Fort Wainwright and the surrounding Fairbanks community are a unique and amazing place to live. During your assignment, you will take part in many rewarding professional experiences that come with serving in the northern most SBCT in the Army. Everything we do in the Squadron is directly tied to four enduring priorities: Discipline, Fitness, Marksmanship, and Maintenance.

The Squadron, Brigade, and Fort Wainwright communities foster strong Families. Within the Squadron, leaders strive to provide a stable, healthy environment so deployed Soldiers are confident their Families are taken care of when their loved one is deployed in harm's way.

Fort Wainwright is co-located with the great city of Fairbanks, Alaska and every Soldier will be exposed to extremes in temperatures and terrain. Fairbanks area is home to more than 90,000 people and provides virtually everything you and your family would enjoy in any other city in America. The community activities, chances for adventure, and exposure to wildlife are endless.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself and us is to contact the unit as soon as you have orders. We want to sponsor you properly, and make your transition as stress-free as possible. Help us help you!

Again, welcome and congratulations on your assignment to the Blackhawks!
