Move images
**Once you add images to your article, you can rearrange them to create a custom layout. This allows you to break up text and make your article an engaging experience.
You’ll notice that your uploaded images are displayed as thumbnails within your article’s text editor. These thumbnails are grouped into image collections, making them easier for you to manage. You can create multiple collections, simply by dragging and dropping images into new positions throughout your article. Continue reading to learn how to move images within your article, as well as reorder them within an image gallery.
Using guidelines and placeholders
To help you move images around your article, CORE provides guidelines and placeholders as you drag and drop.
- Guidelines show you where an image can be placed within the body text of your article.
- Placeholders represent the image you are moving and help you to visualize the order of images within a gallery.
Move an image within your article
To move an image to a different location within your article’s body text:
- Hover over the image you want to move. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair.
- Click and drag the image around your article.
- As you drag, use the yellow guideline to choose a new location between paragraphs.
- Release the image when it’s in the desired position.
You’ll notice that your image thumbnail is now within a new collection, and you have the option to edit or delete the collection from the toolbar on the left side.
Move an image between multiple collections
To move an image from one collection to another within your article:
- Hover over the image you want to move. Your cursor will turn into a crosshair.
- Click and drag the image anywhere on top of the existing collection.
- You’ll see a semi-transparent thumbnail of your image appear within the collection. Use this placeholder to rearrange the order of your gallery.
- Release the image when it’s in the desired position.
Your thumbnail is now displayed within the collection, creating an image gallery. Since there are multiple images in the collection, you also have the ability to change the gallery layout within the toolbar, in addition to the edit and delete options.
Reorder an image within your gallery
An image collection that contains more than one image is called an image gallery. There are two ways to reorder images within a gallery.
OPTION 1 - Drag & drop:
- In your article’s text editor, click and drag the image you want to move.
- As you drag the image, use the placeholder thumbnail to choose a new position.
- Release the image when it’s in the desired position.
OPTION 2 - Edit Gallery lightbox:
- Click on the image that you would like to move to select the collection. A toolbar will appear to the left of your image gallery.
- Click the to open the Edit Gallery lightbox.
- Click and drag the image thumbnails to reorder your image gallery. Use the placeholders to choose a new position.
- Click Update to close the lightbox.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I move an entire image collection to a different location within my article?
Currently, it is not possible to move an entire gallery to a new position, but you can move each image individually to create a new collection. To save time, consider the layout of your images within your article text, prior to uploading them. By double checking the placement of your cursor, you can avoid needing to move an entire gallery once your images are uploaded.
