GRAFENWOEHR, Germany (Feb. 4, 2013) -- Jill Biden, Ph.D., wife of Vice President Joe Biden, spent a day visiting military families, teachers, students and Soldiers, Feb. 2, in Grafenwoehr, Germany.
While at U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr, Biden read to children at the USO, spoke with teachers at the Grafenwoehr Elementary School, visited with military families and lunched with Soldiers at the dining facility.
As both the second lady and a military mom, Biden said she is dedicated to creating awareness and spearheading support for military families both in the U.S. and those stationed and deployed overseas.
She regularly travels to military bases in the U.S. and abroad as part of her national challenge to all Americans to take action to support and engage military families in their own communities.
This program is a joint initiative with first lady Michelle Obama. More information can be found at their website: www.whitehouse.gov/joiningforces.
While at Grafenwoehr, Biden also watched training conducted by the Joint Multinational Training Command, the Army's only overseas training command which is headquartered in Grafenwoehr. Army forces in Europe regularly train U.S., NATO and allied forces for contingencies around the world.
The Grafenwoehr military community is the second largest in Europe.
