The best of the 289th MP Company, 4th Battalion, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) won fourth place out of 36 teams in an Army wide competition.

Cpl. Christopher J. Vazquez, Spc. Gregory A. Bartholomew and Spc. Deante J. Tarp represented the Old Guard and the Military District of Washington in the 14th Annual Warfighter Challenge at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

This is the ultimate competition which brings the military police units of the Army together and tests their abilities in a variety of military occupational skill-specific tasks to determine the best in their field.

The Old Guard team was the first to cross the finish line in the final event, a 15-mile road march, at a record time of three hours and six minutes, the fastest time ever in the competition.

Aca,!A"The ruck march was the hardest event but itAca,!a,,cs beyond physical strength and all about mental capacity,Aca,!A? said Tarp.

The three man team felt they had an advantage over the competing teams.

Aca,!A"The three of us are on a Special Reaction Team so weAca,!a,,cve been training together for at least a year and a half. These other teams are picked from battalion level so they have to build each otherAca,!a,,cs trust from the ground up. Having the kind of relationship the three of us have makes it easier to push the guy to the left and right of us,Aca,!A? said Vazquez.

Aca,!A"IAca,!a,,cm happy to go home with something; I didnAca,!a,,ct know what to expect but IAca,!a,,cd definitely do it again next year,Aca,!A? said Bartholomew.
