In honor of the 2022 National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), the Army is proud to recognize this year’s recipients of the Secretary of Defense Awards at the 42nd Annual Disability Awards Ceremony.

The Secretary of Defense Awards are presented to Service members and civilians with disabilities for their outstanding contributions supporting the Department’s mission and to the DoD Components and Military Departments for their efforts to adopt and implement exemplary practices to advance a diverse and inclusive workforce.

This year's ceremony featured remarks from the Honorable Kathleen H. Hicks, Deputy Secretary of Defense; and Colonel Gregory Gadson, USA (ret). Six Army personnel were among the 27 Service Members and DoD Civilians recognized for their exceptional service to further the mission of the Department of Defense.

Congratulations to the following awardees:

Nominations for the 2023 Secretary of Defense Award for Outstanding Service Members and Civilians with Disabilities should be submitted by April 3, 2023. Nomination packages must include a completed DD Form 3117, a commander’s endorsement, and an adverse screening certification.
