DAEGU -- The 19th Expeditionary Sustainment Command piloted the first iteration of the Pacific Victor Sustainment University on Camp Henry to prepare junior leaders throughout the Korean Peninsula on readiness-related sustainment topics, Dec. 5-9.
The 19th ESC shared its knowledge on Army sustainment readiness standards, responsibilities and its capabilities during a week-long class seminar. Twenty-five leaders throughout 8th Army subordinate commands were chosen as the first students for PVSU.
This 5-day curriculum consisted of in and out of class training in Supply, CBRN, Ordnance, and motor pool operations. The students took classes on certain topics such as Army records information and management system, inventories, handling of classified material, Preventive Maintenance Checks and Services, and Brigade Logistics Support Team capabilities.
"With this course, the junior Leaders across all branches will in turn use what they learned to conduct sustainment operations in Korea," said, Maj. John D. Lamkin, PVSU-P coordinator, 19th ESC.
At the end of each day, personnel participated in a course review and test on the information they learned from the block of instruction and followed immediately by an After Action Review for constructive feedback in order to refine future iterations of the PVSU.
"As an executive officer who supports a commander regarding day-to-day works, I should be familiar with supply maintenance," said 2nd Lt. Alyssa A. Koeter, Headquarters and Headquarters Company Executive Officer, 65th Medical Brigade. "PVSU really helped me understand my job and provided me with a nice overview of what I need to do and what questions I need to ask."
The 19th ESC will now use the proposed feedbacks and lessons learned from the PVSU-P to hone instruction materials and curriculum organization, to improve future iterations of PVSU.
