Iraqi prime minister visits Long Knives

ALI BASE, Iraq - Iraq's prime minister visited the Long Knife Brigade at the base's airfield adjacent to Contingency Operating Base Adder Dec. 1.

Col. Philip Battaglia, the commander of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, hosted Nouri al-Maliki in a VIP room at the base's airport terminal.

Various other local leaders, including the commanding general of the 10th Iraqi Army Division, Maj. Gen. Habib Taleb Abbais Mousa al Husain, and Lt. Col. Scott Kendrick, commander of the 2nd Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, welcomed the prime minister during the brief stop at COB Adder's airfield.

The leaders discussed the American and Iraqi partnership in Muthanna, Dhi Qar and Maysan Provinces. Al-Maliki was impressed at the brigade's ability to provide security and training while building long-term governance and economic capacity in the southern region of Iraq.
