Schuylkill, Pa. - Lt. Col. Samuel Spurlock, a resident of Cordova, Tenn., takes over command of 365th Engineer Battalion, 411th Engineer Brigade, 412th Theater Engineer Command, from Lt. Col. Michael J. Trofinoff, following a change of command ceremony held here Jan. 6.

Col. John R. Seeley, provisional commander of 411th Eng. Bde., welcomed Spurlock and his wife, Sheronda, and children, Aaron Joseph and Alannah Jordan, to the 365th family and Schuylkill community during his remarks.

"Going over his resume, it is easy to assess that this officer is more than qualified to carry the torch and lead this fine unit. Lieutenant Colonel Spurlock is a seasoned combat veteran. He has deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan with the Corp of Engineers serving with distinction. He is a wealth of technical and tactical knowledge and I have every confidence that he will be successful in leading this battalion down the road of success," said Seeley.

Spurlock wasted no time after the ceremony to get to know his Soldiers and to share his own personal and professional experience in both military and civilian world. He held small group meetings with company commanders and full-time staff to talk family, work, values and priorities.

It's a chance for my Soldiers and civilian staff to know who I am as a commander and as a person, and also a chance for me to get to know them better, reinforcing the 'one team, one fight' mentality, said Spurlock.

Prior to taking command of 365th, Spurlock was assigned as Plans Officer-In-Charge for Deployable Command Post 2, 412th TEC, in Vicksburg, Miss..

Spurlock also recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan as Chief Basing Operations Engineer Officer, Strategic Operations International Security Assistance Forces, Joint Command North Kabul International Airfield.

Spurlock holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science/Information Systems from Mississippi Valley State University and a Master in Business Administration in Information Technology from Christian Brothers State University in Memphis, Tenn.
