SEOUL, Republic of Korea -- People to People International honored Servicemembers from U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan during its 40th Annual International Friendship Night and award banquet at the Westin Chosun Hotel in Seoul, Dec. 18.

Dr. Kyung Won Lee, chairman of PTPI, welcomed everyone to the ceremony congratulated all of the awardees for their hard work and dedication throughout the year in support of the community. The ceremony is held every year to recognize and honor military and civilian volunteers, who help the people of South Korea build a better alliance and camaraderie between each other.

"It feels great to have the opportunity to give back to the community through volunteer work and charities," said Sgt. 1st Class Jacob Anthony Aguilar, noncommissioned officer-in-charge of the Directorate of Human Resources for USAG Yongsan.

During the event, a roll of call of various PTPI chapters was announced and then followed by a video presentation showing the history of PTP in Korea.

"It's a great honor to be recognized by PTPI," said Capt. Peter Cha, facility engineer for the Directorate of Public Works, USAG Yongsan. "The Soldiers of Headquarters and Headquarters Company of USAG Yongsan, assisted me a lot in giving back to the community and I really want to show my appreciation by giving them recognition for their support."

After the awards were presented, Maj. Gen. Michael Regner, the commander for U.S. Marine Forces Korea, reemphasized the importance of the building ties with the civil population. He also gave thanks to all of the attendees by leading them in a toast to celebrate everyone's continuous support in their efforts to strengthen the ROK-US Alliance.

"People to People International has been around for many years and has strengthened the ROK-U.S. alliance's incredible ties together," Regner said. "I am confident that our Servicemembers will continue to give back to the community by providing their time, dedication, and hard-work in building a great bond with this great country that they serve."
