SEONGNAM, South Korea - Eighth Army participated in the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition here at Seoul Airport Oct 18 - 23.
The 2nd Infantry Division's 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade took part in the air show and the 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade set up a Patriot air defense system.
Soldiers from the 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade also answered questions about the AH-64D Longbow Apache, UH-60 Blackhawk and CH-47 Chinook helicopters.
Many South Korean and U.S. distinguished visitors attended the exhibition, including Prime Minister Kim Hwang-sik, Defense Minister Kim Kwang-jin, Knowledge Economy Minister Hoi Joon-kyung and U.S. Air Force Deputy Under Secretary Heidi Grant and U.S. Pacific Air Forces Commander Gen. Gary North.
From air shows and exhibition halls to static displays, the show displayed aerospace and defense technology to a diverse crowd, including distinguished visitors, ambassadors, media personnel, businessmen and women, as well as fans of aircraft.
More than 250,000 visitors from 31 countries are expected to attend during the six-day event.
"This event demonstrates the technological advancement in Korea's aviation," said Maj. Gen. Juan Bautista Yepes Bedoya, Colombia's Joint Special Operations commander "Through the vast number of different countries' participation in this event, the importance of this event can be felt."
"The opening ceremony and the rest of the event was extremely well done and well organized," said Col. Philip W. Wielhouwer, 7th Air Force operations and plans (A3A5) director, U.S. mission command. "The advancement and involvement of ROK industries in organizing this event, as well as ROK-U.S. flying side-by-side show the strength of the alliance and I am proud to be a part of it."
