ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - Garrison APG is prepping for winter weather emergencies, and the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security highly encourages residents, personnel and community members to do the same.

Knowing where to go for the information is the first step, said Rick DeOliveira, chief of the Emergency Operations Center and Office of Emergency Management, DPTMS.

"APG personnel should not assume that school or government closings and delays apply to the installation," he said. "APG will be specifically stated in media outlets on television, radio and social media sites."

Information about closings, openings and delays can be found on the official APG website at www.apg.army.mil; on the APG Garrison website at www.apg.army.mil/apghome/; WAPG Comcast Channel 97 and on installation social media sites -- www.facebook.com/APGmd and www.twitter.com/USAGAPG.

Employees can also call the APG weather hotline at 410-278-SNOW (7669) and check local radio and TV stations for status updates. (See the radio and TV list below.)

"Personnel who are unsure about reporting to work, should contact their supervisor for specific information and guidance," DeOliveira said.

He also recommended that the workforce and residents start assembling emergency supply kits to be ready for weather emergencies.

"After what happened in the Northeast after Hurricane Sandy, it just doesn't make sense not to be ready," he said.
