YONGSAN GARRISON, Republic of Korea - A U.S. Forces Korea senior spouse toured Yongsan Garrison facilities last week.

Donna Winzenried - whose husband, Command Sgt. Maj. Robert Winzenried, the new command sergeant major for U.S. Forces Korea and 8th U.S. Army - got an up-close look at family and morale, welfare and recreation activities and programs March 13.

Command Sgt. Maj. Ralph Rusch, USAG-Yongsan's command sergeant major, and his wife, Julie, showed Winzenried around Yongsan Garrison, which is one of four finalists in the 2007 Army Communities of Excellence competition.

"The activities the facilities have for the spouses and the children of the Soldiers are incredible," Winzenried said.

She toured Hannam Village, service organizations, fitness and chapel facilities, and child and youth services facilities.

"They have something to do every day in here," Winzenried said after the day-long tour. "Activities for children like free movies and the classes for the family members in Arts and Crafts really cover the family needs.

Winzenried, who worked in child development centers during previous assignments in Germany and North Carolina, also said she was "impressed" with Yongsan's CDC, which was accredited earlier this year by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
