After only three months at the Indy North Recruiting Station, Sgt. 1st Class David Gauthier became the Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion Station Commander of the Month for May.

A former Infantryman, Gauthier grew up believing everyone should serve their country. Being a station commander in recruiting is where Gauthier has served for the last seven years.

Before coming to the Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion and the Indy North Recruiting Station, Gauthier spent two and a half years as station commander in the Denver Recruiting Battalion’s Cheyenne Recruiting Station in Wyoming and four years as station commander at the San Diego Central Recruiting Station in the Southern California Recruiting Battalion.

Leading a staff of seven, Gauthier appreciates the opportunity to be a leader in the Indianapolis Recruiting Battalion.

“When I was notified that I was being named Station Commander of the Month, my first thought was, my sergeants should be the ones recognized. I hope that by me being recognized, my team’s hard work and dedication will also be recognized,” he said.

Working as a station commander at Indy North Recruiting Station has not been as challenging as getting his family settled. Uprooting his eight-and 14-year-old daughters has been difficult for Gauthier.

“The biggest struggle for me has been adjusting my family to a new unfamiliar area,” he said.

As Gauthier continues to settle into the Indy North Recruiting Station, his goal is to integrate his experience and mentoring into what is already in place.

“The greatest success I feel is yet to come. There is always more to achieve,” he said.

Gauthier said one of his future goals for the station is to offer schools the best tools to help students be successful.

“I want them to see us and come away knowing, a Soldier does his best at whatever the task is, always looks forward to any challenge and has the ability to be successful and be among the best,” he said.
