FORT IRWIN, Calif. - While most of the Soldiers on Fort Hood snoozed away comfortably in their beds, the last of 5,000 Soldiers arrived at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, California, for NTC rotation 15-07 April 18.

The bulk of those Soldiers came from Fort Hood's own 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, accompanied by Soldiers from 3rd Battalion, 227th Aviation Regiment and the recently transformed Division Artillery.

Also involved in the rotation are Soldiers from Fort Bliss, Texas; Kansas; Alabama; California; Michigan; Nevada; North Carolina; North Dakota; Ohio; South Dakota; Texas; and Utah.

"This training exercise brings together approximately 5,000 Soldiers from across eight battalions, three military bases and 12 states operating as one collective task force to conduct decisive action operations in an austere training environment," said Col. Matthew Van Wagenen, commander, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

What's unique about this particular rotation is it's the first one in which a "multi-component" armored brigade combat team and Stryker/Armor elements form a task force to simultaneously deploy and fight within a decisive action rotation at NTC.

"Working on multi-component operations alongside our Army National Guard and Reserve partners, TF Greywolf will strengthen our overall unit readiness and improve our ability to respond to any mission, anytime, anywhere," Van Wagenen said.
