Armor chief reassigned

FORT BENNING, Ga., (April 23, 2014) -- The Maneuver Center of Excellence's chief of Armor and commandant of the Armor School, Brig. Gen. Leopoldo A. Quintas, has been reassigned to Fort Bliss, Texas.

Quintas has been reassigned as the deputy commanding general, 1st Armored Division. The date of his departure has not been announced.

He has served as the chief of Armor and commandant of the Armor School since Sept. 5, 2013.

A 1986 graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., Quintas is also a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Combined Arms Services Staff School, Command and General Staff College and the Naval War College. He has also earned a Master's Degree in Applied Mathematics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

A veteran of Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield, Quintas has served in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star with "V" device, Bronze Star Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Service Medal with five oak leaf clusters, Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Achievement Medal with oak leaf cluster, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge and Army Staff Identification Badge.

Quintas and his wife, Lori, have two children.

The name of the new chief of Armor has not been released.
