CAMP HUMPHREYS -- Leave the tuxedo and sequin gowns at home, this year's "Fall Ball" is not about fancy attire in a high-class ballroom, but it is all dirt (sort of), fun, and skid marks, as the 2013 Fall Softball League continues through the end of the month.

The league started Sept. 28 and will continue through Oct. 26, as long as the weather holds out. A women's league plays on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and the men play on Saturdays, starting at 10 a.m., at Soldier Field, adjacent to the Humphreys Community Fitness Center (Super Gym). Thus far, there have been about 40 participants for the men's teams and 50 players for the women's teams.

"This is just a little fall league," said Harold Branch, the league organizer. "It's to bring everybody together for the love of softball."

Branch, a player and coach for the Humphreys Men's and Women's teams respectively, has been organizing sports events for more than 10 years. So he is not new to this pastime and he is fully aware that players can get a little passionate about the game. "Go, go, go, go, go!" yells out one player as a teammate is circling the bases. Don't let their friendly demeanor fool you. They seem like a friendly bunch of guys… until they get on that field.

"At work, everybody is a professional," Branch said. "Here, you can just let your hair down. Come together and just to have a good time." "It's fun," said Sgt. Benjamin Fork, assigned to 35th Air Defense Artillery Brigade at Osan Air Base. "It gives us something to do on the weekends."

"It's a way to stay active," added Spc. Jason Healey, also with 35th ADA. Those who are interested in playing should come out to Soldier Field and you'll be added to a team. Although the program is only scheduled through the end of October, if there is enough interest and the weather stays nice enough, plans are to continue playing.
