The DCS, G-6 is the principal military advisor to the Chief of Staff of the Army and the CIO for planning, strategy, network architecture, and implementation of command, control, communications, cyber operations and networks for worldwide Army operations.
The 40th Chief of Staff of the Army, Gen. James C. McConville, declared that people are his No. 1 priority. People, in concert with the priorities of readiness, modernization and reform ensure the Army is ready to defeat any adversary, anywhere, whenever called upon, under any condition.
People
Our Army's people are our greatest strength and our most important weapon system. Our people are our Soldiers, Family members, Department of the Army Civilians, and Soldiers for Life (retirees, and veterans). We must take care of our people and treat each other with dignity and respect. It is our people who will deliver on our readiness, modernization and reform efforts.
Readiness
Army leaders have a sacred obligation to build cohesive teams that are highly trained, disciplined, and fit that can win on any battlefield. Cohesive teams drive tactical to strategic readiness and enable dynamic force employment. We must be ready to defeat any adversary, anywhere, whenever called upon, under any condition.
Modernization
The 2018 National Defense Strategy directs the Army to shift focus from irregular warfare to great power competition. We are at a critical inflection point and we must aggressively pursue the Army's modernization efforts in order to maintain our competitive edge. Modernization must include developing the multi-domain operations concept at echelon, delivering the six modernization priorities, and implementing a 21st Century talent management system.
Reform
We cannot be an Industrial Age Army in the Information Age. We must transform all linear industrial age processes to be more effective, protect our resources, and make better decisions. We must be the Army of tomorrow, today.
In support of the Army Vision and priorities:
- Set the unified network
- Posture Signal and Cyber Forces to support multi-domain operations
- Reform and operationalize cybersecurity processes
- Drive balanced, efficient and effective network and cyber investments
The Cybersecurity Integration and Synchronization (CIS) Directorate develops policy and provides oversight and guidance for Army cybersecurity programs, initiatives, and activities. It ensures integration with Federal, DoD and Joint requirements that provide for the confidentiality, integrity, authentication, availability, interoperability and non-repudiation of warfighter and Army business data and information. It ensures Army compliance with IT and Network Security Standards (NSS), as well as Federal and DoD directives/mandates.
The Networks and C4 Services and Integration (NC4SI) Directorate is responsible for Planning, Programming, Budgeting, Execution (PPBE) and oversight of Total Army C4 modernization and sustainment efforts for Enterprise Service Integration, network infrastructure, secure long-haul transport, SATCOM as a managed service, and Strategic National communications. Advise Senior Army G-6 and CIO leadership on strategy formulation and implementation to enable the Army’s conduct of global Multi-Domain Operations through continuous transformation of the Unified Network. Serve as the primary DCS, G-6 representative for all actions associated with the Space, Airborne, and Terrestrial Transport Layer. Develop staff and represent DCS, G-6 equities in the DD PEG. Coordinate DD PEG actions across the DCS, G-6 staff to assure synchronization and alignment to Enterprise Information Environment Mission Areas (EIEMA).
Program Resource Integration (PRI) Directorate oversees development of Army IM and IT policies and governance processes in coordination with OSD, the Joint Staff, the Services, CCMDs, other DoD Components, and other Federal agencies to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards. It assists in developing and coordinating assessment processes for Army IM programs. It serves as the focal point for managing and integrating with IM and IT executive boards. It manages the development, test, and validation of the Enterprise Unified Capabilities (UC) suite of secure, real-time communications services for the Soldier and the Army business user on any trusted device, anywhere in the world.
The Office of Emerging Technology (OET), on behalf of the Deputy Chief of Staff(DCS), G-6, plans and conducts engagements with industry partners in order to cultivate productive relationships, enhance collaboration, identify new technologies and services that can support Army requirements, and maximize the return on investment of taxpayer resources in support of U.S. national security objectives.
