FORT HUNTER LIGGETT, Calif. - Rising Stars at Fort Hunter Liggett stepped up to the microphone this weekend to belt out their favorite songs and earn a shot at stardom.
Operation Rising Star is an Army Entertainment competition which provides Soldiers and their Family members an opportunity to reach their dreams of becoming a recording artist. The judging is based on a cappella performance by a three-judge panel.
This year's contest at Fort Hunter Liggett included six contestants: Laurel "Kayte" Allen, Staff Sgt. Pedro Aleman and Staff Sgt. Tonya Gross, from the 91st Infantry Division, Heather Carpenter, Danielle Randolph, and Ester Kim, all the way from Fort Riley, Kan.
The first place winner at each participating location qualifies for the Army-wide 2012 Operation Rising Star semi-finals. Finishing "in the money" at Fort Hunter Liggett were Ester Kim, the $100 winner and Heather Carpenter, the $250 winner. The $500 winner, who advances to the semi-finals, is Kayte Allen.
The 2012 Army-wide Operation Rising Star Finals will be held in San Antonio, Texas, and broadcast on the Pentagon Channel. The grand prize winner will receive an all-expense-paid trip to record a three-song CD.
