The ten-member U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command (CMC) Chief Information Office (CIO) G-6 SharePoint team has been busy for about one year in preparation to migrate the TACOM LCMC Portal from SharePoint 2007 to SharePoint 2010 (team members are listed at the end of this article.) The migration is scheduled to be completed by August 28 and will include a number of features that will enhance functionality and improve system performance.
Some of the features of the new portal will include:
• A custom sign in page so one single link (URL) to the portal can be used to handle CAC and Active Directory (AD) users
• A redesigned home page to include enhanced custom features
• Enhanced search functionality
• Records management
• A new Microsoft Office like ribbon view
The team was also able to reduce the content management budget by $90,000 in FY12 by developing custom code to migrate all documents from DocuShare to SharePoint. Another major effort was the transition of over seven million records in support of the ILSC office in an effort to bring in all BRAC digitization information and guidance from Rock Island.
"The only problems that we are anticipating," said SharePoint Point of Contact Craig Stoyanovich, "are if users are still on Microsoft Vista there may be some additional configuration required on that user's computer. Also, if a user does not have Microsoft Silverlight installed on their computer they will be unable to see all the custom design and certain functionality of SharePoint 2010 until it is installed. Silverlight is apart of the Army Gold Master desktop image but we have discovered that when Windows 7 was pushed out, some individuals did not receive it."
TACOM LCMC CIO G6 SharePoint team consist of: SharePoint POC Craig Stoyanovich, SharePoint System Admin Nilesh Angle, SharePoint System Admin Rick Knicely, SharePoint Helpdesk Jeff Kropinak, SharePoint Content Manager Vaishali Patel, SharePoint Content Manager Kem Lawrence, SharePoint Graphics Designer John Romanowski, SharePoint Data Base Manager Patti Spycher, SharePoint Data Base Manager Virginia Perdomo, and SharePoint Tester Cole Grace.
None of the migration would have been possible without the help of the Site Admins from the ILSC, TARDEC and ACC Warren.
ILSC Site Testers consist of: John Desrosiers, Eric Johnson, and Kym Lemanski. TARDEC Site Testers consist of Jon Graff and team. ACC Warren Site Testers consist of Nancy Preece, Rose Waiter, and Mark Olivares.
