JACA, Spain -- Sgt. 1st Class Duncan Domey, U.S. Army Mountain Warfare School, and Cpl. Zechariah Burke, 1-172nd Cavalry Squadron (Mountain) 86th IBCT, from the Vermont National Guard, train with the LXVII Military Mountaineering Course at the Spanish Army Military Mountain and Special Operations School, also known as the Escuela Militar de Montaña y Operaciones Especiales, or EMMOE, in Jaca, Spain, Jan. 24, 2012. In the photos, students are participating in the basic winter phase, ski casevac techniques held in La Molina ski station in Gerona, Spain. U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and its Spanish army counterpart collaborated to open opportunities to exchange mountain warfare knowledge and tactics, techniques and procedures, and to build mutual partner capacities between the U.S. and Spanish armies. This is the first time the U.S. Army has participated in the EMMOE since the school opened in 1945. Students from the armies of Argentina and Chile are also participating in the six-month course, which is known worldwide for its high standards and difficulty.
