Army MWR contest provides daily dose of comedy

By Mr. William Bradner (FMWRC)January 9, 2008

Test your comedic skills by entering a joint Morale, Welfare and Recreation-Picturehouse Films promotion to win one of 30 flip video cameras to be awarded, and a chance to bring world-class comedy to the Army installation of your choice.

MWR patrons 18 years of age and older can log on to www.ArmyMWR.com daily Jan. 10 through February 8 to take part in the "Online Improv Wild West Comedy Tour" by submitting a joke, quip or other humorous comment about the improvisational topic of the day.

Individuals may enter every day, but can only win one flip video camera. A grand prize winner will be drawn from all entries received.

The Army installation nearest to the grand prize winner will receive $5,000 to host a comedy show. The grand prize winner and up to 30 guests will be the VIPs at the comedy event, and will receive reserved seating and complimentary food and non-alcoholic beverages. The winner will also receive a flip video camera.

The promotion is a play on Vince Vaughn's new movie, "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland." The film's target audience is males 18-34, which is why Picturehouse brought the promotion to the Army.

In the fall of 2005, stand-up comedians hailing from the world famous Comedy Store in Los Angeles were hand picked by Vaughn, then traveled over 6,000 miles across the country, performing 30 shows in 30 days. The entire tour, including performances, behind-the-scenes action, and interviews with Vince, the comedians and special guests, was captured on film, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and is scheduled for release in February.

For additional details, complete rules, or to learn about other MWR promotions, log on to www.ArmyMWR.com from Jan. 10 through Feb. 6.

The Vince Vaughn-MWR promotion is one of several Army-entertainment company/gaming company partnerships. While online, check out some of the great Family and MWR Command Headquarters-sponsored promotions coming to their clubs, bowling centers, BOSS programs, libraries and other MWR facilities.

MWR employees, except those directly involved in the development of this promotion, are welcome to enter. The Army does not endorse Picturehouse Films or "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days and 30 Nights, Hollywood to the Heartland."
