USAG-HI opens new maneuver area at PTA

POHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, Hawaii -- U. S. Army Garrison-Hawaii opened portions of the Keamuku Maneuver Area, here, to local hunters, July 16-17.

“We discussed the future of hunting in the (KMA) with the Division of Forestry and Wildlife, and we are pleased to open the maneuver area to hunting when training is not scheduled,” said Lt. Col. Rolland Niles, commander, PTA.

Licensed hunters were allowed access to PTA beginning at 5 a.m., July 16. Check-in stations used for PTA hunting were the Huluhulu station on the east side of PTA, and the Kilohana and middle Puuanahulu stations on the west side of PTA.

At the check-in stations, hunters received a handout of information including maps detailing approved access areas, travel routes and hunting areas on the installation.

Big Island hunters are being encouraged to monitor the PTA Hunter’s Hotline at (808) 969-3474 for specific information.
