Hunter to celebrate nation's birthday

The “Worth Fighting For” Independence Day Weekend Celebration at Hunter Army Airfield July 2 will offer something for every member of the Army Family and for civilian guests from the surrounding communities as well.

The day-long celebration will begin with golf for the grownups and fishing for the kids and end with musical entertainment and the traditional fireworks display that night.

In between, there will be a variety of activities for children and adults alike, including Frisbee dog shows, a petting zoo, games, food, inflatables, bowling and swimming.

Featured entertainers will be Casino, described as the most dominant rap artist in the south, and John Taglieri, a New Jersey-based musician, singer-songwriter, recording artist, and record label owner with eight independent albums to his credit.

Following is the schedule of events for the Independence Day Weekend celebration on July 2.

8 a.m.: “Worth Fighting For” Independence Day Weekend Celebration 4-person Golf Scramble begins with a shotgun start at Hunter Golf Club. The cost is $30 per person. Call 912-315-9115 to sign up.

8 -11 a.m.: Kids Fishing Event at Hallstrom Lake. Sign-up for the free event begins at 7:30 a.m. The lake will be stocked with 4,000 10- to 12-inch catfish the week prior. Bait, poles, and cleaning stations will be available, as well as drinks, snacks and prizes for the largest fish caught.

11:30 a.m.-8:30 p.m.: Free admission for Soldiers and Family Members at Hunter Outdoor Pool.

1-4 p.m.: Free bowling, including use of bowling shoes free, for Soldiers and Family Members at Hunter Lanes Bowling Center.

4-8 p.m.: Activities and inflatables at the Family Day Field will include a large and a smaller Moonwalk, a Rock Climbing Wall, Air Ball Shot, soccer goal kick, a 72-foot obstacle course, a trampoline, 4-in-1 Basketball and a Rapid Fire inflatable game. Food vendors also will be on site.

Disc-Connected K9's Frisbee dog shows will be presented at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Sam’s Path Petting Zoo will bring some exotic animals for Family Members’ enjoyment.

Casino will perform from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

John Taglieri will perform from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

A fireworks display following the Taglieri concert will bring the evening to a close.

John Taglieri

John Taglieri released his first solo album “Leap of Faith” in 1999 on his own record company, Leap Dog Music. His sixth independent release, “Lives,” was a 2009 grouping of EPs and books. He is officially sponsored by Ovation Guitars. A persistent touring musician, much of his music is acoustic or in the AOR rock style.
