HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. - After the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade homecoming ceremony, Sept. 29, single Soldiers moved their duffle bags to two new 27,800-square-foot barracks located side-by-side on Horace Wilson Boulevard.

The barracks, valued at approximately $8 million respectively, will each accommodate 72 CAB Soldiers, according to Calvin Shipman, Hunter's project manager for the new construction. They are configured into two-room suites with two private sleeping areas, a common kitchen and dining area, and a shared bathroom.

"The new barracks meet the Army Standard for our Soldiers and allow us to have a facility that will serve us for the next few decades with better living conditions and lower maintenance operating costs," said Lt. Col. Jose Aguilar, Hunter Army Airfield garrison commander.

Shipman said the 3rd CAB barracks are part of a larger Whole Barracks Construction Project, which also includes a 48-man, 22,400-square-foot barracks located off Billy Mitchell Boulevard, next to barracks occupied by the 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment. The new barracks is ready to house Soldiers of the 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.

Three other newly-completed facilities are ready for 3rd CAB's 603rd Aviation Support Battalion Soldiers. Included is a readiness company operations center, an administration company operations center and a battalion headquarters.

In Fiscal Year 2013, 3rd CAB will get additional new buildings - a dining facility, three company operations facilities, two vehicles maintenance shops and an aircraft maintenance hangar.

"We thank our country for providing the resources needed to accomplish our mission and take care of our Soldiers," said Lt. Col. Aguilar.
