FORT RUCKER, Ala. -- Members of the military and local communities are invited to show off their talents for the 2010 U.S. Army Festival of the Arts Competition during auditions Aug. 10-12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at The Landing ballroom.

The top eight finalists from the first round of competitions will vie for cash prizes in the final round Aug. 21 from 6 to 7 p.m. during the Lake Party Luau at West Beach, Lake Tholocco.

Fort Rucker Directorate of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation hosts Rockin' Rucker's Talent Show with an array of categories including vocal soloist, instrumental group, dance group, comedian, and other musical categories.

"This is a very unique competition with a variety of categories to choose from," said Brian Jackson, DFMWR delivery systems program manager. "Army entertainment would like to see what kind of talent is available here at Fort Rucker and surrounding cities. "

Kristan Mikala, from Cedar Springs, Ga., already signed up to compete.

"I absolutely love music, both singing and songwriting. Participating in the Rockin' Rucker's Talent Show sounds interesting and beneficial," she said.

When asked what she would say to anyone out there who thinks they have a talent, and why they should compete in this talent show, Mikala said, "Go for it. If you've got a talent, an interest, a dream, you need to pursue it. This seems like a great opportunity to take things to the next level and gain recognition for your abilities. And it should be a lot of fun in the process."

DFMWR command members judge each installation's attempt to execute a successful talent show. DFMWRC judges will be present at the final round to judge how the overall event was executed and to evaluate the top eight acts.

Persons interested in participating in the Rockin' Rucker Talent Show must pre-register for audition time slots by Aug. 4. Time slots are filling up quickly, so participants are encouraged to sign up early.
