Military members and community leaders gathered at Aberdeen Proving Ground's Fanshaw Field June 19, 10 a.m., to witness Maj. Gen. Fred D. Robinson Jr., assume command of the U.S. Army Research, Development and Engineering Command from Maj. Gen. Roger A. Nadeau.
Robinson comes to APG after serving as the commander of the commanding general of the 1st Armored Division in Wiesbaden, Germany.
"In the short time I have been here, I have gained an appreciation of the tremendous capabilities of this command and its workforce," he said during his command acceptance speech. "These true professionals and patriots are dedicated to making a difference for the Soldier on the front line today as well as to the needs of the Army of years to come."
A native of Bolivar, Tenn., Robinson was commissioned a second lieutenant in 1976 following graduation from the University of Tennessee at Martin with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He also earned master's degrees in Systems Engineering from Memphis State University and National Security and Strategic Studies from the National Defense University. His military education includes the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Army Command and General Staff College and the National War College.
Robinson's previous assignments have included: Executive Officer, 2nd Battalion, 69th Armor during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm; Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Command Center; and Director of Operations, Readiness and Mobilization, Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, G3/5/7.
