FORT CARSON, Colo. — Fort Carson and the Directorate of Emergency Services leadership officially activated the new Fire Station 34 by uncoupling a fire hose in a traditional firefighter ceremony Feb. 18, 2026.
The 8,000-square-foot facility replaces the previous Station 34, which was activated in 1912 at Turkey Creek Recreational Center.
“The opening of Fire Station 34 is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to three core principles, the modernization of our capabilities, the readiness of our warfighters, and the strength of our community partnership,” said Lt. Col. Daniel Gonzalez, director of emergency services.
The new facility provides two fire engines to support firefighting efforts on and off post.
Since January 2025, Station 34 responded to 147 calls for mutual aid out of the 479 handled by the Fort Carson Fire Department.
Being located by Gate 6 off Wilderness Road, the new facility allows firefighters to better support surrounding community partners through mutual aid agreements.
“Emergencies don't recognize jurisdictional boundaries,” said Gonzalez. “This new station significantly enhances the ability of Fort Carson Fire and Emergency Services to respond not only to on-post incidents, but to also support our neighbors.”
The site is also the future home of the Army’s Wildland Training Center which will teach new members of the fire department how to properly respond to wildland fires.
“That's kind of the vision, in the future, to expand this effort across Installation Management Command and make this a premier location for folks to come and train,” said Joe Wyka, deputy to the Fort Carson garrison commander.
The new facility offers living quarters for the crew members who will be assigned to the station and enhances the training spaces with room to grow.
“Station 34, with this strategic location and modern capabilities, strengthens the commitment (to our community partners) … to ensure that when they call us for help, whether it be on post or off, we have the capability to answer,” said Gonzalez.
