The Integrated Logistics Support Center (ILSC) is proud to announce that Ms. Chenelle Covin, technical writer-editor in the Publication Services Division (PSD) of the Logistics and Technical Support Directorate (LTSD), has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the Women of Color STEM - Technical Innovation in Government Award. Ms. Covin will be recognized at the 2023 Women of Color STEM DTX Conference in Detroit, MI on 14 October 2023.

Ms. Covin’s tireless work on technical manuals has long set her apart, and it was her development of the Required Content Checker that truly distinguished her. By using the PowerShell programming language, this tool helps to improve accuracy and save valuable time that can be directed towards other tasks. In addition, Ms. Covin contributed to the CECOM X-Change tool, which has led to much faster conversion times of XML files. Taken together, these two tools have resulted in saving the Army an estimated $7.7 million in manpower costs through improved data accuracy, enhanced accessibility, and an optimized supply chain.

This recognition comes on the heels of the Secretary of the Army Award for Publications Improvements (Departmental) that was presented to Ms. Covin at the CECOM Aberdeen Proving Ground Awards Ceremony on 13 June 2023.

A long-time social entrepreneur and journalist, Ms. Covin found an early passion in computer science that has led her to the peak of the industry. Her natural ability and hard work have come together to pay off with this prestigious upcoming STEM Award, while Ms. Covin’s dedication to the mission and perseverance in the face of adversity serve as a shining example within ILSC every day.

The ILSC heartily congratulates one of its own, Ms. Chenelle Covin, for having earned the Women of Color STEM – Technical Innovation in Government Award. Her organization is exceptionally proud that she has been chosen as an honoree, and we are all looking forward to her big moment in October.
