April training, convoy and hunting advisory for Pōhakuloa Training Area (PTA)

PŌHAKULOA TRAINING AREA, HILO, HAWAII —Military units are scheduled to conduct essential training activities at Pōhakuloa Training Area (PTA) in April that may be heard by surrounding communities.

Essential training is subject to change based on safety, weather and other environmental factors. Weather, such as overcast conditions can increase noise and vibrations. Should individuals hear noise, there is no immediate danger.

For the community’s awareness, the planned training is as follows:

  • April 1-3 Hawaii Army National Guard Demolition Certification
  • April 6 Army Small Arms Qualification
  • April 18 PTA Police Weapons Qualification
  • April 22-30 Small Arms Training and Helicopter Gunnery

There are no convoys schedule for April 2022. If the situation changes, an additional advisory will be published. There are no hunting opportunities currently planned for April. If the situation changes, an additional advisory will be published.

UAS training can occur 24 hours a day, seven days a week on PTA in the restricted airspace.

Protecting the health of the force and the community continue to be the Army's top priority as Hawaii service members maintain mission readiness. All mission essential training requires adherence to Department of Defense and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines regarding safety and physical distancing, to include the wearing of masks and frequent sanitization.

The military appreciates the understanding and continued support of the Hawaii Island community. While sometimes loud, this training is critical to ensure military units and service members are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely.
