SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii (Oct. 4, 2021) — Local military units are scheduled to conduct essential training activities in October that may be heard by surrounding communities.
Protecting the health of the force and the community continue to be the Army's top priority as Hawaii service members maintain mission readiness. All mission essential training requires adherence to Department of Defense and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines regarding safety and physical distancing, to include the wearing of masks and frequent sanitization to the extent possible.
Essential training is subject to change based on safety, weather and other environmental factors. Weather, such as overcast conditions can increase noise and vibrations. Should individuals hear noise, there is no immediate danger.
For the community’s awareness, the training is as follows:
- Oct. 1-10: Army helicopter gunnery, artillery and small arms training, Schofield Barracks. Training will occur during daytime and nighttime hours.
- Oct. 4-15: Army Lightning Academy training with blank ammunition, Schofield Barracks East Range. Helicopter operations will also take place Oct. 7
- Oct. 11-Nov. 5: The 25th Infantry Division is conducting a large-scale training exercise in the following Army training areas: Schofield Barracks East and South ranges, Dillingham Army Airfield, Kahuku Training Area and Kawailoa Training Area. This includes convoys, and ground training with simulated, or “blank,” ammunition, and pyrotechnics.
Aviation training will also take place during daytime and nighttime hours throughout the exercise particularly during the evenings of Oct. 18-25 at Schofield Barracks East range, Dillingham Army Airfield and Kahuku Training Area. Overall there will be an increase in take-offs and landings at Army Airfields to support the exercise.
Unmanned Aircraft Systems, or UAS, training can occur 24 hours a day, seven days a week on Wheeler Army Airfield and in the restricted airspace over much of Schofield Barracks and a northwestern section of the Waianae mountain range.
The military appreciates the understanding and continued support of the local community. While sometimes loud, this training is critical to ensure military units and service members are ready to accomplish their mission and return home safely.
