Garry Owen Troopers Receive Awards for Deployment

Lt. Col. Edward Bohnemann, Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division presents Staff Sgt. Nestor Vargas with a Purple Heart during the battalion's award ceremony at the Fort Hood's Iron Horse Gymnasium on July 22.  Vargas received the award for wounds sustained during enemy contact during the Long Knife Brigade's recent deployment to southern Iraq.

Lt. Col. Edward Bohnemann, Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division performs the traditional knighting for Sgt. First Class Byron Grier during his induction into the Order of St. George at Fort Hood's Iron Horse Gymnasium July 22. Grier was one of three senior Non-Commissioned Officers at the ceremony to receive the award, which is granted to Armor and Cavalry leaders for their dedication to duty and leadership.
