Command Sgt. Maj. Kenyatta J. Gaskins was born in Washington, DC and raised in Greensboro, NC.

After graduating from high school in 1995, he joined the United States Army on 3 January 1996. He attended Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and Advanced Individual Training (AIT) at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Upon graduation from AIT, CSM Gaskins was awarded the Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 75H - Personnel Services Specialist, now 42A - Human Resources Specialist. CSM Gaskins has proudly served in the 18th Personnel Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Headquarters and Headquarters Company, United States Army Garrison, Fort Clayton, Panama; 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and Headquarters 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; United States Army Special Operations Command (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina; United States Army Office of Military Support, Washington, DC and 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - DELTA (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. In his previous assignment, CSM Gaskins served as the command sergeant major for Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, NC.

Command Sgt. Maj. Gaskins has deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and several Overseas Contingency Operations. He has held various positions within the Human Resources career field serving as an Awards Specialist, Personnel Services Specialist; Personnel Reassignments Specialist, Personnel Actions NCO, Personnel Services NCO, Human Resources NCO, Battalion S-1 NCOIC, First Sergeant, G-1 Senior Human Resources NCOIC, Special Operations Joint Task Force J-1 Sergeant Major, and Battalion Command Sergeant Major.

Command Sgt. Maj. Gaskins' awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (3rd Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit Award, Meritorious Unit Citation, Army Good Conduct Medal (7th Award), National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Humanitarian Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 Bronze Service Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 Bronze Service Stars), the Combat Action Badge, the Basic, Senior, and Master Parachutist Badges, the Air Assault Badge, and the Driver's Badge.

Command Sgt. Maj. Gaskins has completed the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault Course, Jumpmaster Course, Basic, Advanced, and Senior Leader Courses, Battalion and Brigade Pre-Command Courses, the Battalion and Brigade Command Sergeant Major Development Programs, Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) Course, Equal Opportunity Leader Course, Battle Staff NCO Course, Manpower and Force Management Course, Brigade S-1 Operations Course, Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Non-Resident).

Command Sgt. Maj. Gaskins is married to the former Tamika Fisher and together they have a daughter named Kennedi.
