The Fort Leonard Wood USO is bringing on a new slate of programs geared toward military spouses during 2018.

The organization will begin offering spouse craft socials, USO Coffee Connections and USO Military Spouse Networking events.

"All of our USO spouse-related events are geared towards bringing our spouses together and creating a community bond," said Kelly Brownfield, USO of Missouri, Inc. - Fort Leonard Wood center director.

"We hope that the spouses who participate will meet new friends, which can be key within a military community as families move or significant others deploy. By bringing spouses together we hope to give them another network in which they can reach out to for support," Brownfield said.

The new programs are as follows:

USO Spouses Craft Socials

All items to create a craft will be provided by the USO. Each craft social, organizers come up with one project for everyone to do and a light lunch is provided by Jimmy Johns.

"Our intent is for the spouses to have fun, laugh and leave the USO with something they will be proud to display at home," Brownfield said. The first craft social is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 2. Spouses can RSVP by contacting the USO at 573.329.2039.

USO Coffee Connections

"Come join the USO as we host a small gathering for military spouses to connect with each other while enjoying a cup of coffee," Brownfield said. "This is a great way to network, share advice, discuss local events, and meet new friends." The First USO Spouses Coffee Connections is scheduled from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Feb. 15. RSVP by calling 573.329.2039.

USO Military Spouse Networking Events

This event is a speed networking event for military spouses. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about USO programs, discuss the art of networking, and network with other military spouses, hiring employers and community leaders.

"All spouses will walk away meeting new friends, contacts, and professionals and will also receive a military spouse networking kit," Brownfield said. This event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 18 with details to follow.

Other regular programs sponsored by the USO include:

USO Family Game Nights

Family game nights are about bringing military families together.

"We open our doors and provide a full dinner at no charge to our military families, while filling the USO with games for families to do together to build and strengthen their bonds," Brownfield said.

The next USO Family Game Night is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 23.

USO Family Craft Socials

During the summer months, the USO will provide multiple family craft social events, a spinoff of the spouse's craft social. The USO will come up with a craft to be completed as a family. All supplies will be provided.
