CAMP DARBY, Italy -- The command team of 839th Transportation Battalion changed leadership in change of command and change of responsibility ceremonies that took place June 26 on the parade field here.
Colonel Curtis Stewart, commander, 598th Transportation Brigade, presided over the ceremony where Lt. Col. Jason Alvis relinquished command to Lt. Col. John Hotek, and Command Sgt. Major James Harris relinquished responsibility as battalion CSM to Master Sgt. Jermain Jackson.
"The 839th under Jason Alvis has made a difference," said Stewart. "No doubt, 839th is a small battalion with wide-reaching responsibilities. It is also a small unit in a small place, whose members have a big impact on the life of the community."
Stewart and the community members who gathered for the ceremony wished all the best to the Alvis family in their future assignment at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, and welcome the Hotek family.
A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Hotek graduated from John Carroll University in 1997 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. He was then commissioned into the Army Transportation Corps.
Hotek comes to Darby from Kaiserslautern, Germany, where he served in various capacities in the G3 and G5 sections of 21st Theater Sustainment Command. Most recently, he conducted Foreign Military Sales and Security Assistance Activities for the U.S. Department of State in Baghdad, Iraq.
Hotek said he feels honored and privileged to have the opportunity to command this unit and thanked leadership.
"We look forward to working alongside you as we build upon the past success of the 839th and continue its legacy of exceptional performance," he said.
