As summer officially kicks off and the days of summer school are ending, some parents are looking for options to stay cool and keep the kids busy.

Fort Leonard Wood organizations are offering events and programs to Families during the summer.

Bruce C. Clarke Library

If you haven't enrolled your children (and even yourself) in the Bruce C. Clarke Library Summer Reading Program, there is still time to register. The program, themed "Reading by Design" will remain underway through July 14.

According to Lacie McMillin, children's library technician, the program is designed to encourage readers to explore creativity in writing, art, building, and inventing.

"All ages are welcome to participate, even babies and adults," McMillin said. "Everyone who is eligible for a library account is welcome to sign up."

To register, visit brucecclarke.beanstack.org. Scroll down and click the button that says "Register an Individual or Family." Start by registering all of the adults that want to participate in your family, and then register any children, McMillan said.

Middle School Teen Center

Summer Camps are available for children in grades 6 through 12. The fee is based on income category and parents can register their children at Parent Central Registration. According to Andrea Ogle, CYC facility director, the Middle School Teen Center also offers free open recreation and they serve lunch from noon to 1:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and a snack from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. The center is open noon to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; noon to 9 p.m. Fridays and noon to 10 p.m. Saturdays.
